Avoiding and Causing Controversy

It is good form to recognize and respect the views and opinions of others, even if you don’t share them.

There are many ways of dealing with burns.

What works for one may not work for someone else.

Be careful what you say.

Those who say “you still got your mind” give up on the physical before the individual addressed.

“I know what you’re going through” can never be an accurate statement.

All burn survivors have been down a similar road, none have been down the same road.

Stating that one is not a doctor or lawyer will enable one to speak freely on matters of medicine and law.

Never put adult thoughts into the actions of children.

Sometimes you need to have more of an attitude than they.

Speak in terms the audience will understand, get to their level.

When speaking to an audience, seek to go beyond books and videos.

Burn survivors do not need a college degree to know what it’s like to be burned.

Living it and learning it are one in the same.

Right or wrong, society puts forth certain views that challenge the wit of burn survivors.
