Get
Involved
Our objective here is to enlighten burn survivors to a few
of the many ways to get involved. And once involved, strive
to be a powerful asset. Open your mind to the possibilities.
There are many ways that burn survivors can educate and
motivate those in the community.
Sometimes you need to obtain the trust of the medical community
before you can gain access to certain programs. Entities
like the North
Carolina Jaycee Burn Center are very protective of their
survivors and have every right to be. They do their best
to prevent burn injury through programs like Learn
not to Burn, and provide care in and out of the hospital
when burns occur.
James January, founder of The
January Foundation, believes that burn survivors who
get involved must be well trained, highly motivated,
and fearless. Life gives a unique education to burn
survivors. Once skills of survival are sharpened, many become
experts in adaptation, motivation, and education. When such
burn survivors are involved with programs geared toward
education, prevention, motivation and support, it enhances
the effectiveness of the program.
